The towed array in cold waters doesn't have a baffles, if you aren't detecting targets it's likely the ambient noise of the sea is too high or the target submarine is just notoriously stealthy. The way the game is made there is always intense action going on not much time for boredom!. In cold waters, towed arrays are noted in ship versions where one has a towed array and one does not (such as the sturgeon class) and they show up in your sonar display panel.

Now on us boats, i think you need to be going at least 5 knots and more than 150 feet off the sea floor to deploy. The only other instance where the towed array will cease to function (other than being damaged) is if you're in. Cold waters is the submarine naval warfare game that i have always wanted!
